About me
My journey to becoming a Sleep Psychology Consultant began when in my early twenties and led to me gaining a BSc Hons degree in Applied Psychology. I worked in several different mental health settings before being offered a place on the Doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Liverpool University. Six years after gaining my DClinpsych qualifications I established myself as a Consultant Clinical Psychologist.
I am a member of the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC reg number PYL18303) and am Chartered with the British Psychological Society’s Division of Clinical Psychology as well as a member of the Association of Clinical Psychologists, Faculty of Learning Disabilities, Faculty of Leaders and Managers and Behavioural Sleep Medicine Seminars. I have professional civil liability insurance with Howden (policy number P22K2391). I am a strong believer in community engagement and have taken part in many local and international initiatives.
Learning is important to me enabling me to offer the best help to others. Therefore, I have completed training courses in Trauma Informed therapy (Zoe Ludwig Ltd), Compassion Focussed Therapy (Compassionate Mind Foundation), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (British Isles Lltd), mindfulness (Mindflow Ltd) and Family Therapy (Leeds university). In 2021 I completed the Master Class in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy for Insomnia at Oxford University’s SCNI department along with the Sleep Unlimited 2 day sleep training for therapists. For the past year I have been regularly attending weekly International Seminars on Sleep ran by Arizona University .
These recent training courses have fuelled my keen interest and expert skill in helping people with sleep problems. Currently I work part time in the NHS at Manchester’s Sleep Service whilst running this private practice. Due to my strong community spirit, I want to offer more than a one to one approach, I want to be proactive for individuals and improve sleep within communities. Recently I have used my sleep expertise to ensure sleep is on the agenda for our children (via offering support at a local parent / school forum), in our communities (by running a sleep workshop with a local yoga teacher) and in local businesses (by talking on our Lymm radio and on a podcast for Rivers of Resilience).
“The sleep advice has worked for me personally as I now don’t stress if I’m not asleep by a certain time and I listen to my body more. I’ve also stopped using the snooze button and ditched the PJs as they were keeping me too warm. It’s been really helpful for me especially understanding the waves and cycles”
